NMU lacrosse falls to Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS — The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team’s skid continued Friday afternoon as it fell on the road to Davenport 18-4.

This is the third straight game that the Wildcats have lost by double digits after they were swept at home last weekend by Grand Valley State.

Minnie Bittell led NMU with two goals, while goalie Cam Stilson made 10 saves.

The Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead with three of the goals coming from Aaliyah Miller. Northern finally got on the scoreboard with 10:35 left on a free position shot from Bittell, but Davenport fired back with four straight goals to take a big 12-1 advantage into the half.

NMU scored the first goal in the second half on a free shot by Katelyn Mongold with 26:59 remaining and with 19:55 left, Kaitlyn Bridger picked up the Wildcats’ third goal with a free shot to cut the deficit to 14-3. With 7:34 remaining, Bittell got her second tally of the game to finish off Northern’s scoring effort.

The Wildcats take on the Panthers again at noon Sunday to close out the regular season.
