Negaunee’s Luokkala, Marquette’s Sager make Division 1-3 First Team

MARQUETTE — Two Marquette County basketball players picked up some big awards last week at the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association’s annual meeting.

Negaunee’s Eli Luokkala and Marquette’s Lincoln Sager earned spots on the Division 1-3 All-U.P. First Team after ending their high school careers.

Luokkala, who is a Northern Michigan University football recruit, averaged 14.1 points per game and 11.6 rebounds this year. He also made the West PAC Dream Team and the Mid-Peninsula Conference First Team.

Sager averaged 11.9 points per game and notched All-Great Northern Conference First Team honors in addition to his UPPSA award.

The two seniors were joined on the All-U.P. First Team by Escanaba’s Carter Hudson, Gladstone’s Cam Ballard and West Iron County’s Justin Nelson.
