Marquette’s Kam Karp leads the way in the Great Northern Conference boys basketball honors
Made up of MSHS, Escanaba, Gladstone, Kingsford and Menominee, Karp was named the conference Player of the Year for the second straight year after leading the Redmen all the way to the MHSAA Division 1 regional finals, when Marquette lost to eventual state champion Grand Blanc.
Among the Redmen honored, all of them seniors, the other two both made the First Team, repeat selection Ty Lotterman along with Lincoln Sager.
Escanaba’s Tracy Hudson was selected Coach of the Year after the Eskymos made it to the MHSAA Division 2 quarterfinals for the first time since 1960.
Esky’s Erik Victorson was named GNC Defensive Player of the Year, though he will also remember the final basket of his high school career was a 3-pointer that got him to 1,000 in his high school career.
Escanaba won the varsity championship with a 6-1 record as the Eskymos also wrapped up the JV title at 7-0. Marquette carried off the freshman title with a 6-1 mark.
