Emily Renfrew

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University athletes had never won a GLIAC weekly award in women’s lacrosse in the five-year history of the program.

Now they’ve won two.

Sophomores Emily Renfrew and Cam Stilson garnered awards after the Wildcats won a pair of close games in the Superior Dome against league foe Concordia-St. Paul on Friday and Sunday, the first game going into overtime. Earlier in the week, Northern lost a one-goal decision at Findlay, Ohio.

Renfrew, an attacker from Okemos, was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring an NMU record-tying nine goals at Findlay, then adding eight more goals in the Concordia sweep. She also had two ground balls and caused two turnovers vs. Findlay, while notching two assists in each game against Concordia.

Stilson, a goalkeeper from Brighton, earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. She had six saves and two ground balls against Findlay, then made 10 and 12 saves vs. Concordia, adding a caused turnover in the first game and two caused turnovers and a ground ball in the second.
