Caro Els leads Northern Michigan University women golfers to 6th at Walsh Invitational

CANTON, Ohio — Senior Caro Els once again led the Northern Michigan University women’s golf team at the Walsh Invitational held Sunday and Monday at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

The Wildcats were sixth out of a dozen teams in a lineup mostly comprised of current and former GLIAC teams. NMU had an eight-round total of 652, just three strokes behind fifth-place Wayne State’s 649. Grand Valley State won with 596, edging out Findlay by two strokes.

Els carded rounds of 80 and 78 for a 158 total, good for a tie for 20th place. Findlay’s Jill Schmitmeyer shot the low total of 70-72–142.

Also contributing to the NMU total was freshman Annie Pietila in a tie for 24th with 78-82–160, junior Abigail Boozer in 34th with 82-84–166 and sophomore Paxton Johnson in 37th with 83-85–168. Freshman teammate Alyssa Yaggie provided insurance as the fifth-highest Northern golfer in 53rd with 94-87–181.
