Bella Lorens scores 4 goals to lead Marquette girls soccer team to big 8-0 victory over visiting Houghton

MARQUETTE — Sophomore Bella Lorens scored four goals to lead Marquette to an easy 8-0 high school varsity girls soccer victory over Houghton at home on Saturday.

A big six-goal first half effectively sealed the result as the Redettes improved to 2-0-2 this spring, according to an email from a team representative.

“I felt like the girls really came together today and stood their ground,” MSHS head coach Anna Bauers said in the email. “Houghton can always be a scrappy team and hard to play against, and I felt like we took control right away.

“We have a lot of talent on our team, including sophomore Bella Lorens … and senior captain Paige Britton…. I’m very excited to see this team to continue to improve.”

Sophomore Hattie Britton added two goals to the winning effort, while senior teammate Paige Britton and sophomore Sydney Osborne had one apiece.

Freshman Alyson McCarthy accumulated three assists, while Paige Britton, sophomores Adyson Goodney and Addie Ollila and freshman Lily Eberhard each had one.

Junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Des Parois recorded the shutout for Marquette, which was scheduled to play Monday at home against Cheboygan.
