Strong 4th quarter lifts Gwinn Modeltowners boys basketball team past Houghton, 35-25
GWINN — It took a little while for the Gwinn boys basketball team to start to click offensively, but in the fourth quarter, the Modeltowners busted loose Tuesday against Houghton.
Gwinn outscored the Gremlins 19-5 in the final quarter to pull away and get a 35-25 win. Reid Hill led the Modeltowners with 11 points, while Tristan Jancsi had 10.
“They slowed us way down,” Gwinn head coach Ben Olsen said. “I wouldn’t say stall, but it was close to it.
“We missed about three or four point-blank layups in the first quarter. They scored at the first-half buzzer to go up 14-7.
“We started to press in the second half and made a halftime adjustment on offense to attack the triangle-and-two, and Tristan made a few big 3s and Reid made a few big post-ups to finally get us the lead, which we were then able to extend.”
