Owen Riipi, Carsen Hayes lead Marquette hockey team to 2-0 shutout of Escanaba
MARQUETTE — Owen Riipi provided the offense and Carsen Hayes the defense as Marquette shut out Escanaba 2-0 in a high school hockey game played at Lakeview Arena on Tuesday evening.
Riipi broke a scoreless tie in this nonconference game with just 21 seconds remaining in the second period with assists going to Joe DeMattia and Jackson Potulny.
He added insurance with 2:14 left in the game with assists going to Ethan Phillips and Potulny.
Hayes stopped all 20 shots he faced, seeing six shots in the first period and seven each in the final two periods.
Marquette, meanwhile, peppered Esky goalie Dylan Ziemke with 44 shots as he stopped 42, including 16 in the middle period.
