Northern Michigan University Wildcats’ freshman Jacqueline Smith named best volleyball player in GLIAC

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University volleyball freshman Jacqueline Smith was named GLIAC North Player of the Week after her performance against Saginaw Valley State at Vandament Arena over the weekend.

Smith led the Wildcats with 37 kills in two four-set victories, averaging 4.63 kills per set. She also had 24 digs and three service aces.

Smith had 22 kills in the Friday’s match and 15 more on Saturday. She hit at a .348 clip in the opening match and .211 in the second.

NMU hosts Wisconsin-Parkside at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in their second of three consecutive home weekends.
