ISHPEMING — Natalie Prophet led Westwood with 20 points but it wasn’t enough as visiting Menominee came away with a 64-49 girls basketball victory on Wednesday evening.

Prophet made 7 of 8 free throws but the Maroons started pulling away in the second quarter.

After the teams were tied 14-14 after one quarter, Menominee outscored Westwood 21-8 in the second period to take a 35-22 halftime advantage. That included a half-court buzzer beater by the Maroons’ Erin Barrette.

The Patriots edged closer in the third as Prophet scoring nine points in those eight minutes, but Menominee still led 48-39 entering the final quarter.

The Maroons’ Emma Anderson shared game scoring honors with Prophet as she also had 20 points, making 5 of 5 free throws, while teammate Kennedy Olson added 12 points, Barrette had 11 with a pair of triples and Jenna Nolde scored 10.
