Corina Jahfetson a deadly shooter in Baraga Vikings’ girls basketball district title game win over Ontonagon 51-43

BARAGA — Sophomore Corina Jahfetson was a deadly shooter for the Baraga girls basketball as the Vikings won their MHSAA Division 4 district tournament championship on Friday night with a 51-43 home victory over Ontonagon.

Jahfetson made four 3-pointers while also sinking all four of her free-throw attempts to finish with a team-high 16 points.

She spread them out well, too, made a pair of 3s in the first quarter, one each in the middle two periods and shooting all her free throws in the fourth.

Meanwhile on defense, she made a team-high five steals.

Baraga (13-4) needed all her efforts as it slowly built it lead throughout, going ahead 13-10 after one quarter, 20-15 at halftime and 34-24 through three quarters.

Junior teammate Reide Osterman added 15 points as she made 5 of 6 free throws, also contributing six rebounds and three steals.

Senior Jaylyne Lindemann had nine points, making 5 of 7 free throws, while also grabbing five rebounds and stealing the ball four times.

And senior Rylie Koskinen came through in the clutch, scoring all seven of her points in the final period as she also contributed six rebounds and four assists.

For the Gladiators (13-3), Nicole Lukkari led all scorers with 17 points as she sank 9 of 10 free throws, including 5 of 6 in the fourth. Teammate Makennah Uotila added 12 points.
