Marquette boys, girls float away with swim wins over Rudyard

MARQUETTE — Five swimmers each won four events as Marquette Senior High School swept Rudyard at a dual high school swimming and diving meet held at the MSHS pool on Tuesday afternoon.

The Redmen and Redettes won 23 of the 24 events as the girls won their meet 136-27 and boys were victorious 135-29.

Three boys were quadruple winners — Colin VanderSchaaf, Liam McFarren and Maverick Baldwin were all on the winning 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays, while VanderSchaaf and McFarren were also with the 200 medley relays winner.

Individually, Baldwin won the 200 free and 500 free, while VanderSchaaf won the 100 butterfly and McFarren the 100 free.

For the girls, Grace Sobczak and Lexi LaCombe both swam on the winning 400 free relay, with Sobczak also joining the 200 medley relay winners and LaCombe the 200 free relay victors.

In individual events, Sobcak won the 200 free and 100 backstroke, while LaCombe took the 50 free and 100 free.

The Marquette girls also had a trio of triple winners — Delaney Marchiol, Ella Whalen and Kelsey Glover all were on the winning 200 medley relay, while Marchiol and Whalen were also with the 200 free relay and Marchiol and Glover the 400 free relay.

In individual events, Whalen won the 100 fly and Glover the 100 breaststroke.

The lone girls double winner was Elena Henry in the 200 individual medley and 500 free, while for the boys, Andrew King won the 100 back and Hobey Manson the 100 breast.

Bobby Carson swam with the boys winning 200 medley and 400 free relays, while King was with the 200 medley relay and Manson the 200 free relay.

Single-event winners included Kali McDonough and Hannah Winn for the girls and Jackson O’Connor and Ben Flynn for the boys.
