Bailey LaVigne, Elizabeth Williams lead Westwood girls swimmers & divers

ISHPEMING — Bailey LaVigne had a hand in three victories to help the Westwood girls defeat Houghton 101-76 in a high school swimming and diving meet held at the Patriots’ pool on Monday afternoon.

LaVigne won the 200-yard individual medley by more than 15 seconds, the 500 freestyle by more than 10 seconds and swam a leg in Westwood’s victorious 400 free relay team that won by less than 2 1/2 seconds.

The teams each won six events but depth carried the Patriots as they picked up nine runner-up finishes.

Westwood’s Elizabeth Williams won two events, the 50 free and a leg in the 400 free relay, while Jenna Wealton won diving and Emma Jestila the 100 breaststroke. Sarina Maki and Lucy Howe swam the other legs in the winning 400 free relay.

The visiting Gremlins won the boys meet 122-8 as the Patriots only entered one swimmer, Trevor Chantelois, who picked up a pair of second-place finishes.

Kingsford sweeps Ishpeming-Negaunee

Michael Adams picked up the only wins for the Ishpeming-Negaunee boys as Kingsford won that meet 84-35 on Tuesday.

Adams was victorious in the 200 free in 2:14.15 and 100 breaststroke in 1:15.14.

In the girls meet won the Flivvers 98-68, I-N won the final event, the 400 free relay, in 4:58.47. The winning swimmers were Brianna Steede, Payton Ihamaki, Annika Tervo and Amara Wallner.
