Volleyball all-state: Marquette’s Seiler Hruska earns award from coaches group
She was named to the Third Team in Division 1, the only Upper Peninsula player named in either of the top two divisions in the state, which comes from MHSAA classifications based on school size.
In Division 1, roughly equivalent to the former Class A, from around 65 players honored by MIVCA, Hruska was one of only three players from north of a line across the central Lower Peninsula extending from Bay City to Muskegon.
This was only the third time since 1981 that a Marquette volleyball player has been recognized on the MIVCA all-state teams, according to a recent email from MSHS athletic director Alex Tiseo, and the most recent time was also earned by Hruska.
As a sophomore, she earned MIVCA all-state honorable mention in 2019, while Kristen Millado won the same honor in 2006.
Hruska had a stellar fall season as an outside hitter for the Redettes. With the team compiling a 14-3 overall record and Great Northern Conference championship with an undefeated record, she made her 1,000th career kill during a five-set victory over Negaunee on Sept. 9.
Hruska was named GNC Player of the Year and selected to the MIVCA Division 1 All-Region team.
Players earning the all-region award are eligible to be nominated for all-state, according to Tiseo.
More than 200 players from all four MHSAA divisions were named to First, Second and Third teams in each division, along with honorable mention lists being compiled.
Also from the U.P. in Division 4, Carney-Nadeau senior outside hitter Taylor Kedsch was named to her Third Team, while three others made honorable mention — C-N senior middle blocker Liana Blahnik, Cedarville senior middle blocker Elysia Causley and Pickford junior setter Elizabeth Storey.
In Division 3, Calumet senior outside hitter Ellie Djerf earned honorable mention.
