Northern Michigan University Wildcats’ Ondrej Zach wins, Felipe Lemos 3rd
MARQUETTE — A pair of Northern Michigan University men’s swimmers medaled at the pandemic-inspired Collegiate Virtual 5000 that replaced the annual Open Water National Championships usually held in September.
Senior Ondrej Zach won gold in the virtual event, completing the 5,000-meter race in 49 minutes, 42 seconds. Junior teammate Felipe Lemos captured bronze across all divisions in 53:52.
For the women, Wildcats senior Katharina Springhetti was 13th out of 38 competitors in 58:17.
The Northern teams are off through the holidays and return for a live meet at Wayne State from Jan. 11-15.
