Upper Peninsula tennis finals moved to Thursday, may move again

MARQUETTE — The MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals in tennis have been moved from today until Thursday, and could be delayed again, due to a continuing forecast of rainy weather this week.

The Division 1 finals set for Negaunee High School, which will also employ courts at Westwood High School, are now scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a report from Negaunee athletic director Paul Jacobson.

Word has it that if rain also threatens Thursday’s play, and as of Tuesday night a 70 percent of precipitation is forecast that day, then the tournament would then be moved to Monday, a day with no rain forecast.

Teams scheduled to play there are the Miners and Patriots along with Marquette, Escanaba, Gladstone, Kingsford and Menominee.

The Division 2 finals have also been moved to 10 a.m. EDT Thursday in Iron Mountain, though with a 50 percent chance of rain in the forecast, might move again to Friday or Monday.
