Marquette Redmen post 2nd straight 6-0 boys soccer win over Kingsford

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team proved it was a half-dozen goals better than Kingsford on Tuesday night down in Dickinson County, then proved it again at home on Thursday night.

The Redmen, who improved to 3-0-1, posted their second 6-0 shutout of the Flivvers in three days, again using sterling defense as senior goalkeeper Liam Jeevar only faced two shots, both in the second half.

“Having just played Kingsford two nights ago, we knew they would be playing us hard but our guys stepped it up as well,” MSHS head coach Dan Salmon said. “Good team play (Thursday night).”

Sophomore Max Dawson scored two goals, including converting a penalty kick for the game’s first score about 10 minutes in, while senior Nick Lindberg had a goal and assist.

Sophomore Nick Asmus scored on a pass from senior Connor Johnson to make it 2-0, while Dawson scored again before the first half ended when he took a pass from junior defender Owen Goymerac for a 3-0 score.

In the second half, sophomore Evan Sysko took a combination pass from senior Brett Wittler and Lindberg, while junior Hayden Byma made it 5-0 on another penalty kick. Lindberg rounded out the scoring with a goal off a pass from freshman Ethan Sandstrom.
