Northern Michigan University qualifies 6 skiers for NCAA Championships

MARQUETTE — Six skiers from Northern Michigan University’s men’s and women’s teams have qualified for the NCAA Championship meet to be held in Bozeman, Montana, on March 12 and 14.

They qualified after a successful regular season and wins at the NCAA Central Regional Championships held last weekend at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.

For the men, qualifiers are senior Mathias Aas-Rolid and juniors Kjetil Baanerud and Daniel Streinz, while for the women are sophomore Nadine Matter and freshmen Malin Boerjesjoe and Molly Miller.

Last weekend, Rolid won the 10-kilometer freestyle race, while Baanerud finished second on both days in 10K freestyle and 20K classic races. Streinz was fourth in the 10K and third in the 20K.

Boerjesjoe won the women’s 5K freestyle and was fourth in the 15K classic, while Miller was second in the 5K as Matter took second in the 15K and fourth in the 5K.

In Montana, the first day will feature the women’s 5K and men’s 10k freestyle races, while two days later, the women’s 15K and men’s 20K classic take place.
