MARQUETTE — Two fifth-place teams from the initial week fell out of the voting in the second weekly Upper Peninsula high school basketball polls voted on by select members of the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

With the polls released every Tuesday morning, the Westwood boys (4-2) in Divisions 1-3 and L’Anse girls (7-2) in Division 4 went from fifth to not receiving any votes this week after each was tagged with at least one loss during the past week.

Not a whole lot of movement among other area teams occurred, however.

Munising (7-0) took Westwood No. 5 spot in Divisions 1-3 boys as Negaunee (6-0) remained No. 2 and Marquette (5-2) stayed at No. 3.

In Division 4 girls, Baraga (7-1) stayed put at No. 4.

And in Divisions 1-3 girls, Westwood (6-1) stayed at No. 2 and Negaunee (7-2) at No. 5, while Marquette (6-2) still earned two votes to come up just short of the top five.

No area teams have been voted in the top five either of these first two weeks among Division 4 boys.

No area team earned any mention in the Associated Press boys and girls state polls that were also released today, though several U.P. teams made it.
