Munising, Republic-Michigamme, SC girls all lose

RAPID RIVER — The Munising girls basketball team was in a tight battle with Rapid River Friday night, but in the end, the Mustangs came up short as they fell to the Rockets 42-39.

Megan Matson led Munising with 28 points, while Kristin Goodacre was RR’s offensive leader with 14.

The Mustangs were on top of the Rockets 12-5 after the first quarter, but were shut out in the second as RR took a 14-12 lead into the half. The Rockets padded their lead up to nine at 31-22 after the third quarter, and then held off a Munising rally in the fourth.

Munising hosts Engadine Tuesday.

Dollar Bay 43, Republic-Michigamme 32

At Republic, the Hawks fell behind in the first quarter and couldn’t rally past the Blue Bolts.

Allie Radcliffe had 14 points for R-M, while Tailyn Raisanen had 10. Lexie Turner led DB with 12 points.

The Blue Bolts held a 15-10 advantage after the first quarter and led 23-18 at halftime. DB kept its foot on the gas in the third, outscoring 20-14 in the second half to close out the victory.

Stephenson 59, Superior Central 15

At Stephenson, the Cougars were shut out in the first quarter and could never catch up to the Eagles.

Elizabeth Molag led SC with eight points, while Emma Rutter had seven.

Stephenson led 19-0 after the first quarter and led 39-8 at the half. The Eagles then piled on in the second half to cap off the win.
