Iron Mountain boys top Ishpeming on road

ISHPEMING — Jacob Kugler led the Ishpeming boys basketball team with a 16-point night, but it wasn’t enough as the Hematites fell to Iron Mountain 67-45 at home on Friday.

IHS is now 1-3 on the season, while Iron Mountain rolled to 4-0 behind a 29-point performance from Marcus Johnson. Foster Wonders chipped in with 25 for the Mountaineers.

The Hematites had a 3-point deficit to overcome after one quarter with I-M taking a 15-12 advantage after the first eight minutes. The Mountaineers outscored Ishpeming 23-14 in the second to bring a 38-26 lead into the locker room.

The third brought the Hematites down the most as they were held to just six points in the frame. That gave Iron Mountain a comfortable 54-32 lead after three, allowing them to go into cruise control in the final eight minutes.

Gavin Argall and Breck Bell each added six points for the Hematites in the losing effort.

Ishpeming hosts Manistique (2-3) on Friday.
