I-N sweeps Gladstone in pool

NEGAUNEE — The Ishpeming-Negaunee girls swimming and diving team used its depth to pull out a 93-71 victory over Gladstone at the Negaunee High School pool on Tuesday afternoon.

I-N won just five events to six for Gladstone, but two of their wins came in the meet’s final three events.

The I-N boys also won a tight 51-42 decision, taking seven events to just three for the Braves.

I-N has some time off and won’t swim and dive again until traveling to the Rudyard Invitational on Jan. 18.

Four girls combined on Tuesday for I-N’s lone relay victory, the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay — junior Annika Tervo and Amara Wallner and sophomores Brianna Steede and Tia Anderson.

Three of those swimmers accounted for I-N’s individual victories — Tervo took the 100 backstroke and 200 free, Wallner the 50 free and Steede the 100 butterfly.

In the boys meet, four more I-N swimmers were double relay winners in the 200 medley and 200 free — Owen Morton, Elliot Rasmussen, Michael Adams and Braxton Blalock.

Adding individual wins were Morton in the 500 free and 100 back, Blalock in the 100 free and 200 free and Adams in the 100 fly.
