MARQUETTE — The seven area teams that were ranked didn’t move an inch in this week’s Upper Peninsula high school basketball polls as voted on by select members of the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

There was almost no movement in the four polls, which were released Tuesday morning.

Negaunee (10-0) remained at No. 2, Marquette (8-3) at No. 3 and Westwood (6-3) at No. 5 in the boys’ Divisions 1-3 rankings.

While the Miners won both their games last week, the Redmen went 2-1 and the Patriots lost their only game.

For the girls, Westwood (10-1) stayed No. 2, Marquette (9-2) No. 4 and Negaunee (9-3) No. 5 in Divisions 1-3, while Baraga (11-1) remained No. 3, just not with a tie anymore, in Division 4.

Those Pats won both their games, the Redettes won their only game and the Miners went 1-1 in the past week, while Baraga was 2-0.

The Negaunee boys were the only area squad to crack the Associated Press top 10, also released Tuesday, as the Miners checked in at a tie for eighth in Division 3.

Some big games are on tap this week involving area teams. The Miners boys hosted Iron Mountain on Tuesday night, while the Westwood boys get their crack in Iron Mountain on Thursday.

On Friday, the Menominee girls come to Marquette.
