Austin Killips leads Munising Mustangs boys basketball team past Engadine, 57-39

MUNISING — Senior Austin Killips sank three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points to lead Munising past Engadine 57-39 in a high school boys basketball game played at the Mustangs’ gym on Monday night.

Munising built leads of 13-6 after one quarter and 23-11 at halftime before breaking open the game in the third quarter. That’s when the Mustangs scored 20 points and took a 43-21 lead headed into the final period.

Senior Jason Cornish added 12 points to the winning effort, while senior Jesse Duran scored seven and junior Sam Brown six.

Pedro Pardo paced the Eagles with 12 points, making all four of his free-throw attempts, while Hunter Dennis added 10 points.

Munising is back in action at Newberry on Wednesday.

Bessemer 59, Republic-Michigamme 43

At Bessemer, the Speed Boys’ Anthony Metas was a sharpshooter, making eight 3-pointers and all four of his free-throw attempts to score a game-high 28 points.

That included four 3s and two free throws in the fourth quarter, when Bessemer turned a tenuous 39-36 lead into its final double-digit margin.

Junior Eli Luokkala led the Hawks with 17 points, while senior Kolin Konklin added 14 and sophomore Derek Koski had eight.

R-M plays at Jeffers Thursday.
