Alyssa Hill, Negaunee Miners girls basketball team overcome slow starts to beat Calumet, 50-35
NEGAUNEE — Sophomore Alyssa Hill and the Negaunee Miners both overcame slow starts as the Miners posted a 50-35 girls basketball victory over visiting Calumet on Thursday night.
Hill scored a game-high 18 points, 13 of those points coming in the second half after Negaunee led just 21-17 at the break.
The Miners, who also trailed 8-7 after one quarter, were ahead 30-25 before a 20-point fourth-quarter outburst insured them the win.
Another Negaunee sophomore, Lilly Nelson, hit a 3-pointer in all four quarters to finish with 12 points, while senior teammate Chloe Norman added 10.
Lizzie Torola paced the Copper Kings with 10 points.
Hill also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds as she made 7 of 13 shots from the field. Nelson was 4 of 7, all 3-point attempts.
Senior Breanne Giotto led Negaunee with four steals, while Norman had a team-high three assists.
Next up for the Miners is another home game against Ishpeming on Tuesday evening.
