Westwood swimmers sweep Ishpeming-Negaunee

NEGAUNEE — It didn’t take long into this season for a school record to fall during a high school swimming and diving meet held at Negaunee High School on Thursday.

Westwood’s Brock Sundberg scored a Patriots-record 230.2 points in the diving to help WHS defeat Ishpeming-Negaunee 86-27 in the boys meet.

The Patriots’ Sarina Maki, Allison Korpi and Margaret Boburka each had a hand in three victories as the Westwood girls upended I-N 94-64.

In the boys meet, Sundberg also won the 100-yard freestyle while swimming a leg of the victorious 400 free relay.

Teammate Garrett Frustaglio, also a 400 free relay swimmer, added victories in the 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay, while Justin Kalbfleisch took the 200 free and 500 free. Teammate Chase Waters won the 100 butterfly and swam with the 200 medley relay winners, while Ryan LaFountain took the 50 free and swam with the 400 free relay.

Michael Adams paced I-N with a trio of wins — the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and a leg of the 200 free relay win.

In the girls meet, Maki took the 200 IM and 100 fly, Korpi the 50 free and Boburka the 200 free and 100 breast. And in relays, Korpi was part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays, with Maki in the 200 medley relay and Boburka the 200 free relay.
