Marquette Redmen hockey team scores a dozen goals in 2-game sweep of downstate Saline
MARQUETTE — Marquette rolled up the scoring, putting in a dozen goals while allowing just a single goal each day in a two-game sweep of Saline in high school hockey played at Lakeview Arena over the weekend.
The Redmen won the opener 8-1 on Friday night before dispatching the Hornets 4-1 Saturday afternoon to improve to 5-1 this season.
MSHS hits the road for a game at Calumet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

On Friday, Jakob Peterson recorded the rare “natural” hat trick, scoring three goals in a row, all on the power play, in the first 200 seconds of the third period, putting in shots with 1:56, 2:13 and 3:08 elapsed to turn a 4-1 game into a 7-1 laugher.
But the night’s biggest point producer was teammate Gaetano Cammarata, who picked up a goal and four assists, including helpers on Peterson’s first two goals.
Cammarata’s goal opened the scoring just before the midpoint of the first period, which was followed by goals from Cole Ranta and Cooper Anderson to make it 3-0 after one. The Redmen’s Andrew Fedrizzi made it 4-0 with a shorthanded tally with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the second before Saline got its goal by Joel Raupp barely more than a minute later.
Lucas Guertin scored Marquette’s final goal, coming just 2:11 after Peterson completed his hat trick.
MSHS’ Ansel Frost and Hogan Nemetz each picked up a pair of assists, while Anderson, Guertin, Dylan Baldwin, Jack Sides and Dylan King had one apiece.
Brennan Hakkola had to make just 10 saves to record the goaltending victory as Saline’s Griffin Granion was called on to make 44.

On Saturday, Cammarata notched another goal, this one coming into an empty net with less than a minute remaining.
Sides posted a goal just 19 seconds into the game before Saline’s Connor Wright evened the score before the game was five minutes old.
Following a scoreless second period, Baldwin broke the tie with the game-winner 1:25 into the third period while teammate Owen Riipi added an insurance marker with 3:19 elapsed to make it 3-1.
Sides, Baldwin and Riipi also had assists, as did Peterson, Fedrizzi, Anderson and teammate Evan Kroll.
Liam Beerman worked in the Marquette net, making 16 saves, while Cody Stein stopped 30 for Saline.
