Calumet tops Redmen icers in OT

MARQUETTE — Through 34 minutes of play, it appeared that the Calumet Copper Kings hockey team was well on its way to a win over the visiting Marquette Redmen.

In the final 17 minutes, the Redmen struck twice, forcing overtime. The Copper Kings struck just 1:02 into the extra session to earn a home win, 4-3, at the Calumet Colosseum.

Calumet’s Scott Loukus scored his second goal of the night in overtime to help lift the Copper Kings to victory. His first goal evened things at 1-1 at 14:51 of the opening frame.

The Redmen struck first as Hogan Nemetz struck at 8:01 of the first.

Calumet got the equalizer from Loukus, then got tallies from Lincoln Beiring and Tanner Rowe 1:25 apart late in the second to take the two-goal lead into the third.

Cooper Anderson struck twice in the third, the first time at 13:08 and the second with just 11 seconds left to even things at 3-3.

Alex Studebaker made 15 saves to earn the win. Brennan Hakkola made 25 saves for Marquette.
