SC, Munising players earn Skyline volleyball honors

EBEN — Three players each from Superior Central and Munising high schools were honored by the Skyline Central Conference when volleyball awards were announced on Tuesday.

Cougars’ senior Betty Jo Swajanen earned both the Defensive Specialist and Individual Sportsmanship awards from the league, while sophomore teammate Riley Johnson was named to the Second Team and SC sophomore Emma Rutter made honorable mention.

For Munising, senior Crystal Murdock made the First Team as senior teammate Taylin Behning was placed on the Second Team and Mustangs’ sophomore Jenna Mattson made honorable mention.

Munising finished 4-6 for a tie for second place in league matches as a member of the SCC’s Large School division, while SC was 1-9 for fifth place in the Small School division.

Forest Park senior Mercedes Simmons was named the league’s Player of the Year, while Carney-Nadeau’s Steve Kedsch is Coach of the Year and Stephenson earned the Team Sportsmanship honor.
