Ishpeming to play at 1 p.m. Saturday
ISHPEMING — Ishpeming High School will play Beal City in a Division 8 regional championship football game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Community Field, located about 10 miles from the Aggies’ home.
Beal City is 10-1 and has 68.000 playoff points, giving it the right to host this third-round playoff game over the Hematites, who are 9-2 and have 58.111 points.
Points are determined from a team’s regular-season schedule and factor in the team’s wins along with its opponents’ class sizes and victories.
If Ishpeming wins this weekend, it would advance to the 11-player Division 8 semifinals, which are played at neutral sites. Several times in the past on its path to the state championship game, the Hematites were able to play that round at the Superior Dome in Marquette.
However, a difficulty with that possibility is that the dome will host two 8-player state championship games that weekend.
Ishpeming athletic director Terry Roberts said the school is looking at organizing a fan bus to attend this weekend’s game, but that details were still being worked out as of noontime Monday.
