Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team blanked at home

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team couldn’t get its offense untracked in the second half and lost 4-0 to Saginaw Valley State at the NMU Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.

Now on a three-game losing skid, the Wildcats (3-10, 0-5 GLIAC) trailed just 1-0 at halftime following a goal by the Cardinals’ Whitney Fleming in the final five minutes of the first half.

But it was only SVSU that could score after intermission on a pair of goals by Amy Babon and another by Sakura Bals.

NMU goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto played 82 minutes and made three saves while Allie Jones played the balance of time without a stop.

The Cardinals’ Alyssa Watts stopped all three shots on goal she faced.

NMU sophomore Rachael Erste got off two shots, both on goal, as Northern was outshot 11-5.

The Wildcats complete a four-game homestand with a game against Ashland at 1 p.m. Sunday.
