Northern Michigan University volleyball team falls in 4 sets at Conference Crossover

INDIANAPOLIS — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team opened play at the Midwest Region Conference Crossover with a four-set loss to Missouri-St. Louis on Friday afternoon.

The Tritons (18-2) prevailed 25-14, 27-25, 16-25, 25-18 to leave NMU with a 7-11 record. The Wildcats have two more matches at this event today — vs. Illinois-Springfield at 10 a.m. EDT and Cedarville at 4 p.m.

Northern trailed 22-14 in the second set but pulled off a big rally to tie it 25-25 before UMSL pulled out the set. In the third set, NMU posted an 8-0 rally to go ahead 12-9, then another five in a row to go up 19-11 to win that set.

Sophomore Lizzy Stark led the Wildcats’ offense with 13 kills as she also had nine digs and three blocks. Freshman Abigail Durecki added 11 kills and seven blocks, while senior Sarah Kuehn had nine kills and six blocks.
