Emily Paupore

Negaunee senior Emily Paupore smiles with the medal she won at the Portage High School Invitational cross country meet held in the Kalamazoo suburb on Saturday. Entered in the top girls high school division, Paupore finished in ninth place out of 249 mostly Lower Peninsula runners in what Negaunee High School cross country coach Lisa Bigalk said was a school-record 18 minutes, 31.1 seconds on a 3.1-mile course. She was the Miners’ lone representative at the meet. Holland West Ottawa’s Arianne Olson won the race in 17:43.0, while Paupore was less than eight seconds out of fifth place.
