Bark River-Harris Broncos ease past Manistique Emeralds in football, 20-6
HARRIS — After an explosive and muddy first half, a waterlogged defensive duel decided the outcome as Bark River-Harris held down Manistique to win 20-6 on Friday in a West PAC Iron Division contest.
The Broncos were first on the board with a breakout 60-yard rush from Clayton Eichhorn with six minutes left in the first quarter for an 8-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Manistique (2-5) answered with a 40-yard TD run from Schyler Andersen. However, Joseph Stein broke up the Emeralds’ pass on the two-point conversion as BR-H (5-2) retained an 8-6 lead.
“(Bark River-Harris) capitalized on the turnovers they got, and we didn’t,” Emeralds’ coach Todd Kangas said. “Both teams played a clean game in the second half.”
Nobody scored again until the final two minutes. After the Broncos forced a three-and-out, Nick Javurek launched a 62-yard pass to Stein for a touchdown with 1:30 left.
Just a minute later, the Broncos’ defense proved its worth again when Racicot recovered a fumble and ran it back 20 yards to score the final points.
Andersen had 184 yards rushing on 30 carries.
On Friday, Manistique hosts Norway.
