Westwood Patriots, Munising Mustangs volleyball teams fall in 3 sets

ISHPEMING — Bark River-Harris won its fourth straight match by posting a three-set victory at Westwood in a nonconference high school volleyball meeting held Monday evening.

The Broncos prevailed 25-20, 25-19, 25-10.

“We knew this was going to be a big game for us in a string of three straight games on the road this week,” BR-H coach Jen Ives said. “The girls wanted to come out strong. We practiced over the weekend and we wanted to start strong.

“We came out serving strong, especially in Game 3. We went back to basics, especially on our serve receives, and it worked out for us.”

Makena Lockwood led the Broncos with 17 digs, 10 kills and two blocks.

BR-H also won the JV match in two sets.

Mid Peninsula 3, Munising 0

At Munising on Monday, the visiting Wolverines won for the first time ever over Munising in this Skyline Central Conference meeting.

Mid Pen won 25-15, 25-23, 25-12.

“Every girl stepped up and played their role perfectly tonight,” Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser said. “This our first time ever beating Munising in volleyball, so this is a huge confidence booster for us.”

Kennedy Englund led the Wolverines with 13 kills, six aces, two blocks and two digs.

The Wolverines also won the JV contest in two sets.
