Gwinn 3, West Iron County 0

At Gwinn, the Modeltowners’ Emily Curtice and Marissa Delmont had big nights to lead Gwinn to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 victory as the Modeltowners improved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the West PAC.

Each of those players shared team highs with 10 kills, while Curtice added a team-high 25 digs to go with six set assists and a service ace. Delmont had 25 set assists, five aces and 18 digs.

“Tonight was the best all-around game we have played,” GHS coach Toni Roberts said. “We spread the ball (around) well, we served well, we passed well.

“We still struggled staying focused the entire set and keeping energy on our side, but it’s coming around.

“Senior captains Marissa Delmont and Emily Curtice were absolutely on fire…. Marissa was smooth in her attacks … and was able to keep the defense on their toes.

“We have been working on Curtice not sending over any weak balls. We want her sending every ball with heat on it.

“They were both amazing on defense…. Emily Curtice is unbelievably fast and gets her hands on a lot of balls. She was picking up corner balls, hard-drive hits, tips … everything.”

Adding to the stats sheet for Gwinn was Tianna Taylor, who made eight kills, an ace and 14 digs, along with Megan Ruokolainen with five kills, seven assists, two aces and two digs. Teammate Elliina Miilu had six kills without an error, eight digs and a block.

Gwinn will be at The Rock Invite in Gladstone on Saturday.
