Munising girls tennis team breezes past Ishpeming, 7-1

ISHPEMING — Munising swept singles and won three of four doubles flights to record a 7-1 high school girls tennis victory at Ishpeming on Monday afternoon. The match had been originally scheduled for today.

Among the Mustangs’ winners were Logan Peters at No. 1 singles, where she defeated Tia Mattila 6-4, 6-2, and Abbie Hayes and Makayla McNally, who downed Bailey Peterson and Marissa Neveau 6-0, 6-4.

Like those two wins, each of Munising’s seven match victories came in straight sets.

Ishpeming’s lone win came in three sets at No. 2 doubles, where Emma Poirier and Berkli Asgaard held off Skylar Campbell and Lori Mattson 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

With the season coming down to its final three weeks, Ishpeming plays at Gwinn today in a makeup match from Aug. 26, while Munising is at Marquette on Wednesday afternoon.
