Marquette Redettes reach volleyball tournament semifinals
BAY CITY — Marquette advanced to the semifinals before bowing out of the 16-team Mitten Bay Classic on Saturday.
The Redettes went 5-1 in pool play, splitting with 2018 MHSAA Division 3 state champion Bronson and sweeping Saginaw Heritage and Hemlock in two-game matches.
Finishing in second place in their pool, Marquette Senior High School then defeated Carleton Airport 2-1 in the Gold bracket quarterfinals before losing 2-1 to Beaverton in the semis.
“They were right in the mix with the big dogs all day and people were talking about ‘that team from the U.P.’,” Marquette head coach Ann Crandell-Williams said.
Singled out for praise were sophomore hitter Seiler Hruska, middle hitters Aspen Michelin and Maria Millado and setter Maiya King.
The Redettes play at Negaunee on Tuesday evening.
