Emeralds zip past Ishpeming, 3-0

MANISTIQUE — The Manistique High School volleyball team made quick work of Ishpeming on Tuesday night, crusing to a three set victory, 25-12, 25-8, 25-15.

“I think we served really aggressively. We had 21 aces overall, which I think is pretty aggressive as far as serving goes,” Emeralds’ coach Amy Nixon said. “We were able to bring the power and our hitters were able to hit the ball to the floor. Almost every hitter we have got a kill tonight. We just executed.”

Lenna Smith led the Emeralds (18-1-2) with 10 aces and six kills, while Erin LaBar served seven aces and had 22 assists. Emilee McDaniel added nine kills and Jeanni Chartier chipped in with two blocks.

“We do a good job as a coaching staff of keeping the girls focused and giving them goals to set throughout the match,” Nixon said. “They focus on achieving them and then the win takes care of itself.”

The Emeralds, who also won the JV match in two sets, host Westwood Oct. 3.
