BIG RAPIDS — Senior Caro Els and freshman Abigail Boozer led the Northern Michigan University women’s golf team to a seventh-place finish at the rain-shortened Lady Bulldog Invitational at Ferris State on Saturday. Sunday’s round was canceled.

Els and Boozer each shot 83 to tie for 19th as the Wildcats shot 343 in the eight-school field. Saginaw Valley State won with 311, led by low individual shooter Sabrina Coffman with 71.

The Cardinals were followed by the host Bulldogs, Lake Superior State, Walsh, Ohio Dominican and Ashland as Marian finished eighth.

For NMU, sophomore Gianna Gastrow shot 85 to tie for 25th, freshman Taylor Hakala had 92 for 43rd and freshman Tiffany Elo 96 for 46th.

Next for the Wildcats is the Beall Fall Classic in Findlay, Ohio, on Oct. 7-8.
