Taylor Watters, Steph Abata perfect at plate in Jasper Ridge’s 2nd victory of season in Iron Range Women’s Softball League

NEGAUNEE — Taylor Watters and Steph Abata each went 6 for 6 to help Jasper Ridge Brewery wins for the second time this summer on Aug. 14 in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League.

Jasper Ridge eked out a 27-26 victory over Sisters in Class A as the winners’ Erika Bjorne hit two homers, Watters hit one and Jody Lamour added a triple.

For Sisters, Jesse Rosten, who homered, and Sandy Baysore each went 5 for 5.

In another “A” game, Debbie Zummak, who doubled, went 4 for 5 and Shannon Clemo 3 for 4 as Buck’s Party Store held on for a 21-16 win over Screened Image/Venice 2, whose Nicole Gustafson and Niki Pfluger each were 3 for 4. Gustafson homered and Pfluger hit a pair of doubles.

Cognition Brewing Co. joined Buck’s in sharing first place in the division after holding back Tino’s 19-3.

Terri Tammelin went 5 for 5 with a homer, two doubles and five runs scored for the winners, while teammate Nicolette Schultz was 4 for 5 with two homers, a triple and four runs.

In addition for Cognition, Megan Kinnunen and Courtney Waara both went 4 for 4 with a triple, while Meagan Petros tripled and Amanda Harlock and Terri Todd both doubled.

Tino’s Sarah Massie tripled and Katie Rankinen doubled.

Heritage Glove Repair remained within 2 1/2 games of the leaders with a 24-8 win over Riverside Club.

Heritage’s Cassy Sandberg was 5 for 5 and Abbie Salisbury 4 for 5, while Riverside’s Jordan Kowalski and Veronica Slone each tripled.

Heritage also posted a 23-8 win over Jasper Ridge as the winners’ Sandberg, who homered, and Nikki Whitford both went 4 for 4 and teammate Brandi Logan homered.

The Ridge’s Bjorne hit an over-the-fence homer while LeAnn Saarela was 3 for 3.

In Class B, Libbie Doney hit an over-the-fence homer to help Dave’s Collision get past Signs Unlimited 27-20.

Dave’s remained within one of Buster’s in the loss column as Doney was 4 for 5 and teammate Faith Toutant went 5 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Signs’ Becca LaChapelle was 3 for 4 with a double.

In other “B” action, Buster’s was cited for all-around great defense in a 16-1 win over Venice, whose Becky Lee was also lauded for her defending.

Kim Koski hit an over-the-fence homer as Brogie’s doubled up Paradise Bar 26-13. Koski, Heather Salmi and Hilary Richardson collected four hits apiece, while teammate Traci Sundberg was 6 for 6 and Bree Ranta 5 for 6 with a pair of doubles.

Paradise’s Sierra Laitinen and Sara Martin each were 3 for 4 with Laitinen hitting a triple and Martin a double.

Diana Bazinette hit two homers as she and teammate Cassy Dugan both went 5 for 5 in Globe Printing’s 21-6 win over Pasquali’s. The winners’ Loretta Willey and Chelsea Pekrul each added a homer.

Jonelle Thompson and Kim Wakeham both went 3 for 4 as Quality Car Care picked up its third win of the season, a 23-21 nailbiter over Martin Sports, which saw Ashley Asgaard and Taylor Carlson both homer. Asgaard was 4 for 5 and Carlson 2 for 4.

In Class C, Jack’s Teepee preserved its perfect season with a 13-5 win over Willey’s Tire Shop.

Jack’s Marissa Carello and Hailley Thompson each clubbed homers while Tina Maki hit a triple.

For Willey’s, Caitlin Hewitt was 2 for 3 with a homer.

In other “C” action, Jess Taylor hit a grand slam and two other homers to power OSS past Marquette Embroidery 30-5. The winners’ Amanda Phillipson and Elaina Treloar added one homer apiece.

Kinsie Bertucci and Abby Koski both homered as Bertucci Construction won for the third time this season in a 30-8 victory over River Rock Lanes.

River Rock’s Jordan Fitzpatrick tripled and Shannon Revello was 2 for 2.

A half-dozen players homered for Pineshears as it blasted its way to a 24-20 win over U.P. Fabricating.

Pineshears’ Livvie Wood hit a grand slam while going 3 for 4; Chelsey Wunder and Chelsea Hewitt each hit two-run homers and were also 3 for 4; and Toni Tikkanen, Chelsea Roberts and Victoria Powelson also hit homers.

Tikkanen was 4 for 4 while Roberts and Powelson were each 3 for 4.

For UPF, Rachael Mager hit a two-run roundtripper.

Liz Beauchamp was 4 for 4 with a triple and Marcia Pruett 3 for 3 in support of winning pitcher Kathy Gischia as Palomaki Family Chiropractic earned a 19-9 win over the Negaunee Eagles, whose Amber Nault and Bree Vickstrom homered. Nault was also 2 for 3.
