Tammy Karp hits for cycle in Screened Image/Venice 2 win in Iron Range Women’s Softball League

ISHPEMING — Tammy Karp hit for the cycle and collected five RBIs to lead Screened Image/Venice 2 to a 21-17 victory over Heritage Glove Repair in Class A of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.

Heritage was led by Abbie Salisbury, who went 4 for 5 with six RBIs.

In other “A” action, Morgan Kowalski clubbed two triples and Thalicia DellAngelo added a double as Riverside Club earned its first victory of the season, an 8-6 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery.

Jasper’s Steph Abata homered while going 2 for 4 and Danielle Carlson was 2 for 3.

Nicolette Schultz was 4 for 5 with a homer and double as Cognition Brewing Co. found its hitting shoes again in an 18-5 win over Sisters.

Teammate Jeni Fittante went 4 for 4 with a double, Jaylyne Lindemann collected a triple and double, Meagan Petros was 3 for 4 and Mandie Meyer, Amanda Harlock and Megan Kinnunen each tripled.

For Sisters, Anna Noskey, who homered, Linda Dompierre and Angie Juidici all went 2 for 3.

Cognition held onto its share of first place with Buck’s Party Store, which posted a 15-5 victory over Tino’s.

The winners’ Sara Polini was 4 for 5 with a triple while teammate Shannon Clemo was 3 for 4. Tino’s Nikki Klenc went 3 for 3 while Josey Moyle doubled.

In Class C, Jack’s Teepee kept its perfect season alive while holding off second-place Pineshears by posting a 13-9 win.

Jack’s Halie LeSage and Macey Nault each tripled, while Pineshears’ Mary Peterson went 3 for 3 with a triple and Toni Tikkanen homered and had two RBIs.

Also in “C,” OSS took over second place with a 9-3 win over Palomaki Family Chiropractic. The winners’ Desirae Fernandes homered while Palomaki’s Liz Beauchamp was 3 for 3.

Cora Loubser was 4 for 5 with a triple and was cited for outstanding defense as U.P. Fabricating held off Bertucci Construction 15-13.

UPF’s Valerie Prusi hit two homers and Alyse Schaffer one, while Bertucci’s Abby Koski also cracked two homers as Kinsie Bertucci had one and Kayla Bertucci doubled.

Amy Williams, Miranda Cobb, Beckey Grove and Caitlin Hewitt each were 4 for 4 as Willey’s Tire Shop dropped the Negaunee Eagles 16-10. Williams had three triples, Cobb a triple and two doubles, Grove two doubles and Hewitt a double.

The Eagles’ Mariah Heard homered while Janelle Buttery was 3 for 3 with a double.

River Rock Lanes won by forfeit over Marquette Embroidery.

In Class B, Krista Squiers tripled as Busters held onto the top spot with a 19-5 win over Pasquali’s, which saw Nicki Frisk go 2 for 3 with a double.

In another “B” showdown for second place in the division, Dave’s Collision took a 20-17 victory over former second-place team Globe Printing.

The winners’ Jaime Gobert, Katie Axford and Sidney Higgins all homered, as did Globe’s Loretta Willey, Sara Smith, Cassidy Krueger, Chelsea Pekrul and Casey Dugan.

Bree Ranta tripled and went 4 for 4 as Brogie’s eked out a 16-14 victory over Quality Car Care, whose Brandi Petrocik and Kim Wakeham each had three hits.

Christy Cain and Judy Morcom combined to turn a pair of double plays in Venice’s 16-8 win over Martin Sports.

The winners’ Deanna Makela, Tia Couveau, Nichi Sandberg and Jamie Bryan all went 3 for 3, while Martin’s Vicki Paupore was also 3 for 3 as her team put together a seven-run rally in the fifth inning.

Becky Gauthier was 3 for 3 and Shelly Malany 2 for 3 as Signs Unlimited eked out a 7-3 win over Paradise Bar, whose Jess Harper homered and went 2 for 3 as Mel Cox was 2 for 2.

In Class B, Bethy Finnila hit a grand slam homer to help Signs Unlimited slide into a 12-10 win over Quality Car Care, whose Sarah Amis homered.

Also in “B,” Casey Dugan and Loretta Willey went 4 for 5 in Globe Printing’s 16-2 whomping of Paradise Bar. Dugan and Willey both homered as Dugan also doubled.

Jess Harper and Lori Nylander each were 2 for 4 for Paradise, whose catcher Maria Stanaway made all three outs one inning in the field.

Lisa Carlson was 4 for 5 as Dave’s Collision doubled up Pasquali’s 16-8. Pasquali’s Nicki Frisk was 3 for 4 with a double while teammate Shelley Young was cited for excellent defensive pitching.

Staci Spencer, who tripled, and Bailey Peterson each went 5 for 5 as Brogie’s outscored Venice 27-12. Teammates Traci Sundberg and Brett Ranta both had four hits, including a triple, while Liz Steve added a pair of three-baggers.

Christy Cain was 2 for 2 with a triple for Venice, while Deanna Makela had three hits and Shari Mahoski homered.

Kelsi Cox homered and Jen Bahrman tripled as Buster’s broke loose for a 31-2 win over Martin Sports, which saw Joanna Smail go 2 for 2 with an RBI and Becky Bray double.

In Class A, Angie Juidici hit an over-the-fence homer and three doubles to highlight a 6-for-6 night as Sisters outscored Riverside Club 32-20.

The winners’ Anna Noskey and Leah Dompierre each doubled, while Riverside’s Tayler Gray, Morgan Kowalski, Kendyl Miller and Vanessa Briones all doubled.

In another “A” game, Taryn Moyle hit an over-the-fence homer while teammate Katie Rankinen cracked two roundtrippers as Tino’s scored a 34-9 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose Erika Bjorne homered.

Mandie Meyer, Jaylyne Lindemann and Molly Wales hit over-the-fence homers as Cognition Brewing Co. powered to a 25-8 win over Screened Image/Venice 2.

Meyer went 5 for 5 also with three triples, while Lindemann was 3 for 4. Teammate Nicolette Schultz was 4 for 5 with a triple, Meagan Petros 4 for 4, Terri Tammelin hit two triples and a double, Jessica Geist had a triple and two doubles, and Amanda Harlock a double.

Screened/Venice’s Nicole Gustafson was 3 for 3, while Hannah Holma, who also tripled, Stacie Kruse and Paige Yoho each hit a double.

Screened Image/Venice 2 also picked up a win that week, felling Jasper Ridge Brewery 17-2. Gustafson and teammate Teri Haynes each went 3 for 4 with a triple, while Jasper’s Jody Larmour and Mair Doney both were 1 for 1 with a walk.

Ashley Deuce was 3 for 3 with a double and Sara Polini 2 for 3 with a triple as Buck’s Party Store posted a 14-7 win over Heritage Glove Repair, whose Steph Robar was 3 for 3 with a double and Ashley Maki 2 for 2.

In Class C, Jenn Quayle and Mallory Pruett both homered and Liz Beauchamp was 5 for 5 with a triple to support winning pitcher Kathy Gischia as Palomaki Family Chiropractic slipped past River Rock Lanes 26-22.

In other “C” action, Cheryl Churack hit a grand slam and a “regular” homer while going 4 for 4 as Jack’s Teepee defeated Bertucci Construction 20-15.

The winners’ Chelsey Poirier tripled, while Bertucci’s Abby Koski hit two homers and Kinsie Bertucci and Hailey Hytinen hit one apiece.

Krystal Heikkinen homered twice and Beckey Grove once while Ashley Juchemich was 3 for 3 as Willey’s Tire Shop posted a 38-18 victory over Pineshears, whose Toni Tikkanen was 4 for 4 with a homer and Heidi Verville 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Mara Couch hit two homers and Des Fernandes tripled in a 19-2 win posted by OSS over the Negaunee Eagles, whose Ecko Popps and Janelle Buttery both doubled.

Jessica Noskey and Valerie Prusi homered in U.P. Fabricating’s 27-13 win over Marquette Embroidery, whose Katie Menard homered, tripled and doubled.
