Superior Central boys basketball coach resigns

EBEN JUNCTION — Branson Richard has resigned as Superior Central varsity boys basketball head coach according to a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon by district superintendent and K thru 12 principal Bill Valima.

“Branson has a young family and we understand his reasons for stepping down,” Valima stated in the release. “At some point down the road, we’d love to have Branson back coaching in our athletic program.”

The Cougars’ current boys junior varsity head coach Harry Robbins will assume the varsity position.

“I spoke to (Robbins) and he was very interested in the varsity position,” SC athletic director Kris Bray said in the release. “Harry is an experienced coach and I am confident in his ability to run the program.”

Richard was called on to coach just weeks ahead of the 2017 season, after newly hired head coach Chris Prunik had to step down for medical reasons.

Richard compiled a 16-27 record with the Cougars in his two seasons at the helm.
