NMU’s Huebner earns award
MARQUETTE — For the second straight year, Northern Michigan University senior Shayla Huebner has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District 4 Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team.
Huebner, a graduate of Marquette Senior High School, is a sports science major with a 3.92 grade-point average who achieved success in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Indoors in the winter, she finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Championships in the 800-meter run, clocking 2:09.73 in the finals. She followed it up at the outdoor finals this spring at the national finals in the same event with a seventh-place finish after setting a school record of 2:08.75 in the preliminary race.
She was named an All-American after both races.
Huebner holds school records for both the indoor and outdoor 800. After the indoor season, she earned a GLIAC Commissioner’s Award winning for the second time.
District 4 in the Google Cloud awards consists of student-athletes from the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley and Great Midwest Athletic conferences.
Huebner has the second-best GPA of all honorees in the district and is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team. Last season, Huebner was named Third Team Academic All-America.
