L’Anse bows out in MHSAA Division 4 softball regional

NORWAY — The high school softball season drew to a close for L’Anse after the Purple Hornets fell 8-0 to Bark River-Harris in the MHSAA Division 4 regional semifinals on Saturday.

L’Anse (9-15) appeared to have some jitters in the opening frame as the Broncos scored four times, taking advantage of two walks, two passed balls and three hit batters.

“It was definitely nerves,” L’Anse coach Janet Rossi said.

Josie Rice worked 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. She fanned one, walked three, hit three batters and gave up seven runs on five hits. Kailyn Voskuhl whiffed one, walked two and allowed a run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

“Josie settled down and pitched three solid innings,” said Rossi. “I think giving up the home run was a letdown for her and maybe she got a little tired.”
