West PAC softball tourney set

ISHPEMING — In what will be an otherwise all Houghton County-hosted tournament, Negaunee plays at Ishpeming to kick off the West PAC high school softball tournament on Friday afternoon.

In what amounts to a play-in game, the Miners and Hematites square off at 4 p.m. to whittle the field from nine to eight teams for Saturday’s play in Hancock and Calumet.

In Hancock, Friday’s winner takes on the host Bulldogs at 10 a.m., while Westwood faces Iron Mountain at noon.

In Calumet in the other half of the bracket, L’Anse squares off against Houghton at 10 a.m. while Gwinn plays at the host Copper Kings at noon.

The winners from the Hancock games remain there to play again at 2 p.m., likewise with the Calumet winners to stay in Calumet also at 2 p.m.

That sets up the championship game to be played at 5 p.m. in Calumet.
