Northern Michigan University’s Shayla Huebner, Michelle Juergen named track All-Americans again
Huebner, a senior at NMU, advanced to the women’s 800-meter run finals with a time of 2 minutes, 8.75 seconds in Friday’s preliminaries, setting a school record.
She then clocked 2:11.41 to finish seventh in Saturday evening’s finals, earning First Team All-American status, her second All-American award in this mid-distance event this school year after finishing sixth at the indoor nationals several months earlier in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Huebner wrapped up her collegiate career with three All-American awards after earning Second Team honors at the 2018 indoor finals.
Also competing at the outdoor finals over the weekend was NMU sophomore Izabelle Peterson, another MSHS grad. Making her first appearance at a national meet, she finished 14th in the women’s 100 in 11.76 seconds on Wednesday, then came in 13th in the 200 in 24.58 seconds on Friday.
Senior teammate Michelle Juergen of Germany finished 11th in the high jump on Friday by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches. This was her second appearance and second All-American performance in this event this season after she was 10th at the indoor nationals. Each performance earned her Second Team All-American status.
