MARQUETTE — The Marquette girls soccer team had a good fight on its hands from Kingsford on Monday, but in the end, the Redettes came out on top with a slim 1-0 victory.

The winning goal came off the foot of senior captain Lauren Kurzawa, who scored on a penalty kick after the Flivvers were whistled for a hand ball in the box.

Marquette almost got another goal later in the game off a great corner kick from junior captain Emilee Gooch, but the ball skidded across the crossbar and fell down by the far post.

Redettes goalkeeper Sydney Lake also made some quality saves to keep Kingsford off the scoreboard.
