Escanaba Eskymos down Munising 7-1 in a boys tennis meet
ESCANABA — The Escanaba tennis team took care of business here Wednesday, defeating Munising 7-1.
Escanaba’s Christer Carne earned a hard-fought victory at No. 1 singles, outlasting Munising’s Mitch Coyne 6-3, 6-2. Esky’s other three singles players also earned wins, with Shaun Beauchamp winning at No. 4 by forfeit.
“Our singles play was very good. The scores didn’t indicate how close the matches were,” Esky coach Tom Penegor told the Escanaba Daily Press. “They were short-handed — they only had 11 guys today.”
Munising’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles, as Landon Peters and Russ Holloway remained undefeated by defeating Esky’s Travis Burch and Garrett LaMarche 6-0, 6-1. It was the first time this season the Mustangs’ tandem dropped a game.
“Their No. 1 doubles team played very well. This was their third match and they haven’t even lost a game yet,” Penegor said.
