3 Northern Michigan University Wildcats earn spots at track NCAA Division II nationals

Shayla Huebner

INDIANAPOLIS — It was a big day for the Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team as three athletes qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships on Tuesday.

Former Marquette Redettes Shayla Huebner (800-meter run) and Izzie Peterson (100 and 200) both earned spots, while Michelle Juergen qualified in the high jump.

This is Huebner’s second trip to the national championships this season after she finished sixth in the 800 and earned All-American status at the Indoor Championships in March. She finished second at the GLIAC Championships and broke a Wildcats record with a time of 2:08.97 to earn Second Team All-GLIAC honors.

Peterson has qualified for the first time. She broke NMU records in both the 100 and 200 and won the 200 at the GLIACs to earn a spot on the First Team. She also finished second in the 100 to earn Second Team honors.

And Juergen has also qualified for the NCAA finals for the second time this year as she took 10th in the high jump to earn Second Team All-American honors. She was also named the conference Field Athlete of the Meet for the second time this year at the GLIACs.
